Since the historic election of Barack Obama in 2008, the first Black man to be elected as President of the United States, followed by the apparent Blacklash (Backlash) election of Donald Trump in 2016, there is a New America quickly arising and showing its ugly face. This New America is all about a Race War despite various connotations and cloaks one political party in particular is trying to dress it in. It is all about what happened in Mississippi in and around the first Campaign for Civil Rights for Blacks in America, The American Civil War.

Mississippi - The Stand Up State for The Rights of Black Americans

Due to the large number of Blacks who had been imported into Mississippi to work America’s richest soil in the Yazoo Delta area, the volume of Blacks made it possible for Blacks in Mississippi at the time to rise up, speak out, and stand up for their rights. This resulted in the BlackLash (Backlash) by the powerful White community with lynchings and vicious physical, emotional, and economic abuses and atrocities against Blacks. The Blacks in Mississippi set the stage for Blacks standing up and fighting for their rights and their lives throughout the World. The scenario is repeating itself today in modern America where the enormous and increasing accomplishments of the Black population is causing fear, concern, and consternation among what is left of the Racist White element in the United States.

In a Mississippi Clarion Ledger article by Jerry Mitchell about Civil Rights Tourists entitled Mississippi Civil Rights, history museums set to surpass attendance projections, Mitchell states that Author Ralph Eubanks said many are attracted to Mississippi because it was ground zero for the modern civil rights movement and much of what happened here is known, in contrast with some other states, still grappling to comprehend their pasts. "We've had to confront a lot more of our demons," said Eubanks, who detailed his Mississippi childhood in his memoir, "Ever Is A Long Time." "That doesn't necessarily mean we've dealt with all those demons, but our demons have been put out into the open."

The real history of the United States is now being told and recognized nationwide due the vast increase and global reach of the number of Black storytellers and historians. Not the least of this new phenomenon of Honest History is the increased number of Black elected officials, and Black correspondents and journalists in mass media. The story being told is now a much different story, and many who believe in the old status quo, do not like it.

There are a lot more new and different Cooks in the kitchen, and Corporate America is finding this new menu can be good for their bottom line.  Inadvertently or not, American Corporatism is therefore also assisting in educating and changing America by increasingly Blackening the stage.

It is sad that this is the state of our new America, because we are really all one people. America, more so than any other country is a nation molded from the brightest, best and most resilient people from every corner of the world. Europeans who fled oppression in their own countries, Africans who were snatched from their families and communities and brought here, Indians and other ethnic populations who arrived to these shores, by choice or otherwise, and of course, Native Americans whose homes were invaded and lifestyle commandeered to accommodate the needs and whims of newer settlers.

The new Race War is being waged primarily by Republicans and Trump devotees, emboldened by States ruled by Republicans who will not acknowledge what constitutes Systemic Racism. If we want to be One People, practicing Systemic Racism and promoting Racial Division in a Country with the demographics of the United States cannot in the long run be positive, and may prove counterproductive. Their attempts to win elections by utilizing blatant Voter Suppression measures, promoting racial division and dictatorial, totalitarian, undemocratic practices is nonsensical. It is not surprising that the obvious and predictable danger of such actions has so quickly resulted in one already historic violent Coup to overthrow the U.S. government on January 6, 2021.

The real message to be derived from the state of this New America for those who do not want to recognize Honest History is that we are indeed One People, and we need unification more than division. Simply because one segment of society is starting to catch up in the Race for Equality does not mean that the previously more privileged segment is being victimized, displaced, or discriminated against. Equalization and Unification should be celebrated, not feared. True and Honest History is a powerful teacher and should be encouraged.

Despite the common goal, articulated in its motto, E Pluribus Unum (out of many, one), the United States remains a distinct conglomerate, a nation of survivalists, different segments pitted against another but ultimately benefitting from working together.

Mottos are used to describe a country’s intent or motivation.  A number of countries’ mottos bear the word “Unity”, embodying the intent of that nation to exist and prosper as a unified body. Sadly, mottos aside, far too many countries, including the United States, have fallen short of their original intent. In some cases, the developers of the mottos were disingenuous, crafting a motto that did not truly envision unity for its entire people, but for a select few born of privilege or some elevated station in life.

Amidst the ever evolving turmoil, the notion of unity is etched in our cortex, stamped in our DNA, as evidenced by the countless songs and books penned about togetherness, unity, one heart.

Just as in Mississippi where more than anywhere else, the increased presence of Blacks birthed the Civil Rights movement, it is indeed the Mississippi Effect all over again, arising in a New America.

The Crossroads Marker at the Crossroads in Clarksdale Mississippi.

Perhaps no other piece of American Music Mythology has attracted more attention and interest among Music Historians than the Blues Crossroads. The mystery and search for the actual location of Robert Johnson’s Blues Crossroads where he supposedly sold his Soul to the Devil at midnight to gain the ability to perfectly play the Guitar, is enduring. The most well known version of the story claims that he disappeared from the Robinsonville Blues scene in 1930 and resurfaced months later as one of the greatest guitar players of the time. His new found prowess was attributed by fellow musicians to the selling of his Soul at midnight to the Devil at one of the Crossroads in the Mississippi Delta, later evidenced by his song “Crossroad Blues”.

Since his resurgence as one of the most influential earlier Bluesmen, the search for the actual Crossroads has been a thing of immense speculation among the World's Music Historians and Fans. The Crossroads at the intersection of Highway 61 (The Blues Highway) and Highway 49 in Clarksdale Mississippi has been the most promoted and celebrated Site by most aficionados. A Site on Highways 1 and 8 in Rosedale a few miles south of Clarksdale has also gained some attention, and is claimed to be the real Crossroads by the City. Other Sites, even out of State in Memphis and Arkansas have been mentioned by some researchers.

It is noteworthy that Johnson never fully addressed the Myth during his lifetime. In addition, the lyrics of his Crossroad Blues, or any of his other songs do not address the Myth, or identify the location of the Crossroads. The lyrics seem to express his fears of being alone at the Crossroads without a Sweet Woman to ease his distressed situation. He was apparently fearful of arrest, or violence for being out in the boondocks where no one recognized him. Some commenters think the fear expressed was in reference to the "Sundown Laws" in the rural South at the time which placed a curfew on Blacks being out after Sundown, and commonly referenced by signs advising "N....ger, don't let the sun set on you here". 

He sings that being at the Crossroads gave him the Blues, and wanted to let his friend Willie Brown know that he was at the Crossroads and possibly in trouble. It implies that Willie Brown may be somewhere in the vicinity, familiar with the particular Crossroads, and able to provide some assistance. Willie Brown was a mentor of his, and lived in the Lake Cormorant, Robinsonville area in the Northwest corner of the Delta where Highway 3 merges with Highway 61 just south of Memphis.

Our research reveals that the Story about the Robert Johnson Crossroads is probably more fable than fact. Johnson may have used a fictional place to describe the crossroads he sang about, imaging one from his frequent travels in the area. An actual Site would probably involve not only the heavily traveled highways, but those which were associated with Railroad facilities where itinerant travelers could ride the trains legally, or conveniently hop on an available passenger or freight train to facilitate their travels. Bluesman Johnny Shines who played many small towns and travelled with Johnson told stories of how he and Johnson frequently hopped freight trains, and rode on the back of trucks to get from place to place. Some commenters have also observed that the term "Crossroads" may technically refer to the crossing of a rural highway by railroad tracks.

Traveling musicians also used bridges and river banks as resting and fishing spots while moving from town to town. The association of Crossroads with Graveyards in Southern folklore may have also played some part with the notion and location where Robert Johnson sold his soul to the Devil at midnight.

It is widely reported by myth that Johnson met a large Black man at the Crossroads at midnight who helped him tune his Guitar and taught him to play it. Other versions of the story claimed he met the man at a graveyard, and not at a crossroad. 

There are credible reports that Johnson and a mentor named Isaiah (Ike) Zimmerman liked to practice their craft sitting on tombstones in graveyards at night because of the serenity, quietness, and lack of disturbance. He apparently met Zimmerman in Itta Bena, and studied his guitar techniques with him in Beauregard Mississippi.

If there is an actual Blues or Devil’s Crossroad related to Robert Johnson, such Sites in the Delta would probably include the noted Clarksdale Site, the Highway 49 and 3 intersections at Tutwiler, and the Highway 6 and 3 intersections at Marks. Interestingly, these three locations form a perfect triangle in the area of the Delta where many Musicians would have to travel.

The Tutwiler Train Depot was actually the location where W.C. Handy, “Father of the Blues” first heard what he described as the weird music played by a loose limbed unnamed bluesman in 1903. He later named and promoted this music as “The Blues”, which led to the notion that the Blues was first discovered at the Tutwiler Train Depot.

The Crossroads at the City of Marks in Quitman County MS showing from left to right the graveyard to the west with the small stream running in front of it, the park and stream, and the Crossroads of Highways 6 (278) and 3, the railroad tracks just east of the Intersection, and the Bridge and historic Coldwater River to the east. 

The Crossroads at Marks perhaps best fits most of these credentials since it was a crossroad to many important Delta towns, located right next to the Delta’s historic Coldwater River, a prominent graveyard, a park, a large bridge running over the river, and train tracks connecting many Mississippi Delta towns, and Memphis Tennessee.

Based on our research, considering all of the circumstances of Robert Johnson's stories and travels, and all of these facilities conveniently located in one place at one of the most heavily travelled Intersections in the heart of the Delta, the Crossroads at Marks is one of the most likely locations of the Blues Crossroads.

Highway 3 was also a heavily traveled Highway since it cuts right through the center of the Delta, with a more direct North South route, linking many towns all the way from Jackson to Memphis. Hwy 3 is itself a crossroad, connecting with Hwy 51 at Jackson in the South, and Highway 61 in the Northern Delta at Robinsonville and Lake Cormorant, just South of Memphis. Willie Brown a musical mentor of Johnson, and who he mentions in his Crossroad Blues song lived in this area, as did Johnson in his early years. It is therefore likely that Johnson frequently travelled Highway 3 to go between Memphis, Robinsonville, the Greenwood area, Jackson, and the Hazelhurst area where he was born.

Highway 6 is perhaps the Delta’s most historic and heavily traveled East West highway. It connects Tupelo, Elvis Presley’s Hometown in the East, Oxford, home of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and Writer William Faulkner, Batesville, Marks, and Clarksdale in the West.

It is reported that Son House, an important Blues legend himself, claimed that Johnson returned to the Robinsonville scene with a Guitar Style that no one else could match. Son House apparently stated, “He must have sold his soul to the Devil to be able to play like that”. This statement is believed to have started the Myth of the Devil’s Crossroads and Robert Johnson.

Most people want to be rich and make a lot of money, and many of them even have some idea of how they think they can do it. However, lots of Studies have shown that most will never achieve their goal of being financially wealthy. Financial Wealth in a Capitalism Driven World is reserved for a rare few, and this will undoubtedly always be the case considering the many factors involved, not the least important being the lack of assiduousness that most of us practice. Those that do not inherit great wealth, or are not paid millions of dollars for their extraordinary, super talents, must then have a way to invest what they do have to gain true financial wealth. 

No job, occupation, or profession other than being a Star Athlete, Entertainer, or Movie Star will ever make the typical worker the millions of dollars a year that will put them in the truly wealthy class. Studies also show that more than 90% of startup businesses fail within a couple years of startup, and most people with business ideas never even start a business. The odds against becoming financially wealthy are enormous.

There is one business however that has a better percentage than others at potentially producing Generational Wealth. A Game Where the Odds Are Always in Your Favor

One of my dad’s biggest sacrifices during the pandemic has been not going to the casino. He loves those trips. He even has a separate bank account that he keeps his “casino money” in. He automatically deposits a small portion of his pension into his casino account every month. He pulls money out of that account when he goes to the casino, and anything he wins gets deposited back into the account after he has visited.

A couple of months ago, he mentioned to me that since COVID-19 hit, the balance in his casino account keeps going up. It seems that not going to the casino is actually a positive thing for his bank balance!

What floored me is that, somehow, he seemed surprised by that fact…

As you may know, every single game is structured so that the casino has an edge. In blackjack, ties go to the house. In roulette, there is an extra space that puts the odds in favor of the casino. In slots, every single game ultimately results in the casino winning over time.

I’ve politely tried to explain to my dad that it is a mathematical certainty that, over time, he will lose money at the casino. His response has always been the same. He tells me that a trip to the casino is exactly like putting money into the stock market.

But he is wrong…

In the Stock Market, We Are the House. Stay at the casino long enough, and you are certain to lose.

The stock market is exactly the opposite. The more time we spend in the market, the more likely we are to win. Historical data makes that clear. The investment firm Dimensional Fund Advisors studied stock market performance from 1926 to 2020. The study looked at the odds of an investor having either positive or negative returns based on how long they were invested in the S&P 500.

The results are conclusive…

S&P 500: 1926-2020 width=The longer you are invested, the greater your chances of success.

Anyone in the market for the long term over the course of this study had virtually no chance of losing money.

Even daily, the stock market odds are in your favor.

I should also point out that to lose money over five- or 10-year periods, you would’ve had to have incredibly bad timing.

You would have needed to invest in the S&P 500 only at the worst possible times, like the 1929 peak or the 2000 top of the dot-com bubble.

Success, meanwhile, requires only a few things:

Diversifying, or getting wide exposure to great companies in different industries
Not being greedy or going all-in at market peaks
Not getting scared at market bottoms like the one last spring or cashing out at the worst possible moment
Being patient and letting time in the market do all the hard work for you.

When having a moment of doubt, like many of us did last spring, I like to look at the chart of the S&P 500 going back more than 100 years.

All that chart does is keep climbing up and up. Over that long period, even terrible crashes look like blips on the radar.

Investing in the stock market isn’t gambling. The game is rigged in our favor.

The real story however is that those who embark on this journey without proper training and experience will eventually get hurt, and experienced well trained Investors and Traders will learn how to take advantage of them and their undisciplined Stock Trading activity. A little knowledge, as it is often said, can be dangerous. It has long been known that there is a lot of "Dumb Money" in the Markets as opposed to the "Smart Money".

The Smart Money always wins and eventually benefits from the presence of the Dumb Money in the Markets. In fact most of the Investors and Traders in the Markets are in the Dumb Money category, until they get the training and experience needed to truly be competitive against the highly experienced Smart Money crowd. Investing and Trading is really a business and should be conducted like a business to be ultimately successful, considering the enormous amount of competition in the Securities Marketplace. This was one of the primary reasons Investment Groups like The Hannaian Investment & Publishing  Group (HIPG) was established back in the mid 1990's. When You Buy A Stock, Here's How Much Cash The Company Actually Receives

When you buy $1,000 of a company’s stock in your Robinhood account, how much of that cash goes directly to help fund the company and its business operations? The answer is $0.

Where Your Cash Goes: The issue of buying shares of stock to help “save” struggling companies like GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME) and AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc (NYSE: AMC) has come up frequently on social media since the WallStreetBets-fueled meme stock buying frenzy began in January. However, experienced investors know that publicly traded companies don’t get a dime from the cash you spend buying their shares of stock.

Companies typically raise cash in the public market when they first go public via an initial public offering (IPO), a merger with a special acquisition company (SPAC) or a direct listing. However, once their shares are trading on the public market, any shares you buy in your brokerage account are coming directly from another shareholder who is selling, not the company itself. Aside from any trading fees you may spend on the transaction, every dollar you spend buying shares of GameStop, AMC or other stocks ends up in the brokerage account of the person or institution that sold them to you.

AMC and GameStop traders on Reddit and Twitter have been celebrating their efforts to “save” these companies by buying shares of stock. In reality, the companies haven’t gotten any funds from any of the recent stock buying.

How Public Companies Raise Funds: Once a company is public, it must raise capital via options such as a follow-on public offer (FPO), also known as a secondary offering. FPOs can be both dilutive or non-dilutive. A non-dilutive FPO happens when the founders or other large shareholders sell some of their shares to the public. An FPO may increase a stock’s float, or free-trading shares, but it does not increase the company’s outstanding shares or decrease its EPS.

A dilutive FPO happens when a company creates new shares to sell to the public. By creating new shares, the ownership stakes of existing shareholders are decreased slightly the same way the value of a currency erodes when central banks print more money.

Companies can also raise capital by borrowing money. However, the company must first find a lender that will agree on a reasonable interest rate. Many lenders don’t want to touch struggling companies like AMC and GameStop because they aren’t convinced they will be able to pay back their debts.

What It Means For Meme Stocks: Despite all the publicity and wild volatility in GameStop, the company itself hasn’t actually been directly helped by all the retail buying. GameStop reportedly considered selling more shares during the January rally, but the SEC has said it would closely scrutinize any company that attempted to take advantage of the extreme trading volatility to knowingly sell overpriced shares to vulnerable investors. In June 2020, bankrupt Hertz Global Holdings Inc (OTC: HTZGQ) withdrew a proposed $500 million equity offering after the SEC cracked down on the company for potentially preying on investors.
AMC, on the other hand, was able to raise $1.2 billion via debt and equity deals in January after its stock rallied more than 700%.

“The irony here, of course, is that GME couldn’t even tap equity markets to take advantage of the recent short squeeze,” DataTrek Research co-founder Nicholas Colas said this week.

He said the so-called “dumb money” flowing into the market may not be helping the companies directly, but it is certainly making short sellers think twice.

“You don’t have to be long, but betting against people who think their 10-share buy order is going to change the world is both risky and not actually a fundamentally-based investment position,” Colas said.

There has been some quick responses around the World to the recent expose of the offensive imagery used in the British Awards System as detailed in the National Market Report (NMR) Article by NMEX CEO Harlington L. Hanna Jr. a week ago. The NMR Article and other reporters around the Globe called for the need to address the situation immediately. The star of the Order of St Michael and St George.

The campaign of the Black Lives Matter movement against racism reverberated in King's House yesterday as Governor General Sir Patrick Allen accepted as “offensive” a racist image on a British badge he is forced to wear on his breast on official duties.

Since Independence, Jamaican governors general have worn the breast star — one of Britain's highest honours — with an image depicting a white angel standing on the neck of a chained black man, which has become a flashpoint in the protests against racism.

“The governor general acknowledges and welcomes the concerns expressed by our citizens and the negative emotions that the image has caused, and assures his fellow Jamaicans that the necessary requests will be made for a revision of the image to the Lord Chancellor of the Order of St Michael and St George,” said a news release.

Campaigners against the image on the badge representing the Order of St Michael and St George contend that it is akin to the scene of the May 25 killing of black American George Floyd by a white police officer in Minnesota, United States.

Sir Patrick, in an explanatory note, said the 19th century Star of the Order of St Michael and St George, two military saints, depicted St Michael, the Archangel, as being triumphant over Satan.

“However, in light of the heightened scrutiny of our iconography in Jamaica undergirded by our history, the Black Lives Matter movement in America, and related issues in the global sphere, it is evident that the image can be offensive,” he said. 

Similar pressure is being mounted on Buckingham Palace to redesign the emblem which is traditionally awarded to ambassadors and diplomats and senior officials of the British Foreign Office who have served abroad.

A petition started by Tracy Reeve calling for the medal to be redesigned has quickly attracted more than 5,000 signatures, many from Jamaicans, on change.org.

“This is a highly offensive image… We the undersigned are calling for this medal to be completely redesigned in a more appropriate way and for an official apology to be given for the offence it has given,” the petition said.

The British Guardian newspaper quoted Bumi Thomas, a Nigerian British singer, activist, and specialist in visual communications, as saying: “It is not a demon; it is a black man in chains with a white, blue-eyed figure standing on his neck.

“It is literally what happened to George Floyd and what has been happening to black people for centuries under the guise of diplomatic missions: Active, subliminal messaging that reinforces the conquest, subjugation and dehumanisation of people of colour.

“…It is the definition of institutional racism that this image is not only permitted but celebrated on one of the country's highest honours. Whilst statues are being pulled down and relocated, emblems and symbols of this nature also need to be redesigned to reflect a more progressive, holistic relationship between Britain and the Commonwealth nations.”

The Guardian also quoted Sir Simon Woolley, director and one of the founders of Operation Black Vote, which campaigns for greater representation of ethnic minorities in British politics and public life, as saying he was appalled by the badge.

“The original image may have been of St Michael slaying Satan, but the figure has no horns or tail and is clearly a black man. It is a shocking depiction, and it is even more shocking that that image could be presented to ambassadors representing this country abroad,” he said.
